Great albums in need of remastering and reissuing...

The news that Kate Bush has finally reissued and remastered her entire back catalogue for imminent release and David Bowie is the midst of doing the same, here are some other albums in need of a re-release...

1. One Dove - Morning White Dove: The only album they made, but it is a classic. Begs to be reissued with as many of the brilliant Slam, Underworld, William Orbit and Andrew Weatherall remixes and studio outtakes as possible. In an ideal world of course, the Lord Sabre himself would oversee the remastering.

2. The Beloved - Happiness: Seems remarkable that this post-acid house, Balearic pop masterpiece has so often been overlooked. The band'.s subsequent output never came close to this amazing debut. The list of remixes that could be included in any reissue is endless - especially of The Sun Rising and Your Love Takes Me Higher - but this brilliant album is long overdue wash, brush-up and re-release.

3. Electribe 101 - Electribal Memories: It should be no surprise to see this on the list. A classic early house album enlivened and embellished by Billie Ray Martin. Was reissued in 1991, but this is in sore need of a remaster. Any reissue could also include remixes and extra tracks. Unfortunately, having spoken to Billie Ray Martin, who has tried to get this album re-released, it seems the record company are not forthcoming at this moment in time. What a shame. Anyway, fingers crossed for a change of mind.

4. Leftfield - Rhythm & Stealth: The very welcome reissue of Leftfield's seminal Leftism in 2017 surely paves the way for the remastering and re-release of its dub-fuelled, minimalist follow-up.

5. Radiohead - The Bends: Given the furore that greeted the re-release of OK Computer it should surely only be a matter of time before its predecessor receives the same treatment. The 2009 Collectors Edition has never really cut it in terms of sound quality and extras. Time to revisit it.

6. Orbital - 'Green' & 'Brown' albums: Astounding that these two albums have not yet been given the special edition overhaul treatment, especially given the fact that there is a wealth of amazing remixes and live versions that could be included on any reissue. Surely the advent of Orbital's re-found creativity could be a spur to have another look at the excellence and rarities lurking in the back catalogue?

7. The Cure - Wish: Rumour has it, this reissue is imminent, which can only be good news after Robert Smith divulged to BBC 6Music that he had picked up the remastering of the albums after a hiatus that began a few years ago with the brilliant reissue of Disintegration. I'm a big fan of Wish - though other Cure fans might disagree - and subsequent tour was the first time i got to see them live. Anyway, album highlights Open, From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea, Doing The Unstuck, Trust, and End deserve to be heard in all their remastered glory.

Image result for u2 pop

8. U2 - Pop: The album after which U2 stopped being interesting and began competing with Coldplay and Keane for hollow, bombastic anthems. The band were never happy with Pop after setting themselves an artificially tight deadline and re-recorded some of the tracks for the Greatest Hits. Both decisions were wrong with more time, the band could have ironed out the inconsistencies in some of the tracks and perhaps even brought themselves to drop Miami (by some distance, one of the worst songs U2 have recorded). Nevertheless, there is far more good than bad here. Discotheque throbs and pulsates w while Mofo sounds like The Chemical Brothers had already been let loose on it. Do You Feel Love - one of my personal highlights - is underpinned by a fantastic drum and bass section while If You Wear That Velvet Dress reveals a Chris Isaak-like intimacy U2 seldom replicated before or since. The non-album tracks and numerous remixes would also be well worth seeing the light of day again.
